Birchmeier backpacks are in our opinion, the best-built backpack sprayer on the market, but they do require some maintenance. One of the most common issues we hear is that techs are having trouble building pressure in their Birchmeier sprayer. And without pressure, there is little to no spray coming out, so this is an important thing to fix ASAP.

This issue could be caused by a few different things, but one of the most common is the Birchmeier check valve. Many times just by inspecting the check valve and either giving it a thorough cleaning or replacing it will fix the pressure problem. If it is worn out or if it has some debris in it, then the check valve will not be able to allow the backpack to build pressure. 

To find the check valve all you need to do is remove the air chamber. The check valve is small and white. Just pry it off with a screwdriver, clean it and put it back in. We do recommend replacing it once a year though as they can wear out.

Andrew Greess: Hi. This is Andrew Greess with QSpray.com. Here I’m talking about the Birchmeier Backpack. It’s a terrific backpack. In our opinion, the best backpack built, but it does require maintenance. One of the things we see or one of the questions we hear from our customer is, “I’m having trouble building pressure in my backpack.”

That could be a number of things, but one of the things that it could very well be is the check valve. If the check valve is worn out or if it has a little bit of debris in it, then the check valve will not be able to allow the backpack to build pressure. The check valve goes under the air chamber, right here. So, one screw to your air chamber.

Here’s your check valve right here. You got to use a little screw driver and pry it out. It will not just come out. Just use a very little pressure on a screw driver and take your check valve out. If it’s in a good shape, you can rinse it off, clean it out, put it back in.

What we recommend is probably a good idea, once a year, if you’re have a user who relies on it for work, change it out once a year. You’ll have a lot less struggle. Thanks for watching. Visit us at QSpray.com
